Online martial law in Turkey
A form of de facto online martial law has been in effect in Turkey since mid-September. Turkish authorities launched a major wave of digital restrictions, issuing sweeping court orders to block social media profiles, news outlets, and digital monitoring handles. It began around the government's “My Family Is Safe” (Ailem Güvende) crackdown on LGBTI+ organizations and then expanded into restrictions on journalists, independent media, rights organizations, academics. By the end of September, people discussing a scandalous financial fraud erupted in Turkey has been included into the campaign. X is highly collaborative in this censorship wave.
