Official ceremony in Ankara for Holocaust victims

On January 27, the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, there will be an official ceremony in Ankara.

According to Şalom's report, the ceremony will be hosted in Ankara University and Minister of European Union Volkan Bozkır, The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance Turkish Committee Chair Ambassador Tunç Uğdül, Ankara University Rector Erkan İbiş and Chief Rabbi Rav İzak Haleva will attend the ceremony.

The ceremony will begin with a documentary on the liberation of Auschwitz- Birkenau camp and Turkish students who visited the camp last year will make presentations.

It is expected that the representatives of the foreign states in Ankara will also attend the ceremony.

On November 2005, UN General Assembly declared that January 27 will be the International Holocaust Remembrance Day. On January 27, 1945, Russian Army seized  Auschwitz- Birkenau camp.

According to that decision, every UN member country is obliged to commemorate Holocaust victims and develop instructive programs about Holocaust.

It is also advised that UN member countries should educate the young generations against hate crimes in order to prevent such events from happening again.
