Bombing attack in Ankara: 37 people killed

Yesterday, in Ankara, near Kızılay Güvenpark, an explosion took place at 18.45. In the attack, 37 people were killed and 125 people were injured.

In the explosion that took place near bus stops, at least 37 people were killed and 125 people were injured. Minister of Health Mehmet Müezzinoğlu made a statement to the press this morning and informed that the death rose to 37 and 15 people is in critical condition. 

The bombing attack in Ankara was carried out by a vehicle loaded with explosives. There is a ban on broadcasting for now. This is the third explosion that took place in Ankara in the last 6 months. 

Statements after Security Summit

After the attack, a security summit was held which was leaded by Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu. Minister of Justice Bekir Bozdağ, Minister of Interior Efkan Ala and Minister of Health Mehmet Müezzinoğlu talked after the summit. 

Minister of Interior Efkan Ala: There are strong evidences and findings. We will declare the perpetrators after our investigation is completed. The attack was carried out by a moving vehicle loaded with explosives. 

Condemnation from HDP

HDP released a written statement about the attack: “We condemn the attack that took place in Ankara this evening. We feel for our people. We state that all these sufferings cannot alter our feeling of fraternity.”

Statement from the US Embassy about the “notice”

The US Embassy made a statement about the notice that was sent to US citizens 2 days before the attack. 

“The US Embassy found out that there is the possibility of a terrorist attack through a notice that had been circulating in social media and was claimed to be from Turkish government. After conforming this information, the Embassy sent a notice to all US citizens in Ankara and employees in the Embassy; this is what we always do, when we are informed that there is a threat.” 

In the notice sent on March 11, it was stated that there is an information about a possible terrorist attack to governmental buildings and residences in Bahçelievler district in Ankara.
