People keep protesting Ateşyan

Protests against Aram Ateşyan, who maintains his seat as General Vicar of the Patriarch, continued this week. People gathered in front of Feriköy Surp Vartanants Church for staging protest.

The delay in patriarchal election continues to cause unease in Armenian society and people keep protesting Archbishop Aram Ateşyan who maintains his seat as General Vicar of the Patriarch and attends events with this title. Previously, during a mass which Ateşyan attended, a person staged a silent protest putting the Bible up. And during Maral Music and Dance Company’s performance, two foundation executives verbally protested Ateşyan. At the same event, Değabah Bekçiyan’s statement was applauded. Protests against Aram Ateşyan continued this week. People gathered in front of Feriköy Surp Vartanants Church for staging protest.  

Renowned Maestro Hovhannes Çekiçyan was granted “Ormanyan Medal” by the patriarchate on the occasion of his 90th birthday. On May 14, a badarak mass was held in Surp Vartanants Church and led by Archpriest Tatul Anuşyan. Archbishop Ateşyan and High Priest Zadig Babikyan also attended the mass and Ateşyan was protested. Three people put the Bible up and protested Ateşyan over patriarchal election. When Ateşyan started his sermon, some people left the church. After the mass, 15 people protested Ateşyan in front of the church, holding signs that read “We will choose our patriarch”.
