Patriarchal election has been preoccupying Armenian society for years. Recently, a petition campaign for patriarchal election is launched. The campaign, which is titled “Do you know that Armenian Patriarchate of Istanbul is under occupation?”, is initiated by Thinking Platform and launched on change.org on May 16.

Here is the statement made on the campaign page:

“Do you know that Armenian Patriarchate of Istanbul is under occupation? Unauthorized irresponsible ones are hindering the election; they are stuck to their titles against our traditions, they are trying to make the bureaucracy involved in the internal matters of 1700-year-old ancient church and they are seeking for power in the guise of charity.

They are deprived of reason and conscience; they don’t recognize people, religion, law or tradition!

Both the ones who defend the dignity of the society and the authorities who don’t do anything will be written in history!

And their grandchildren will read it with shame.

We urge Ateşyan to resign. We urge all decision-makers to take the necessary steps for making Ateşyan step down and launch the election process. We urge foundation executives to stop recognizing Ateşyan’s annulled seat and title and support the değabah.

And we urge our people, the greatest decision-making power, to sign this petition and raise their voice!

We want to hear your voice and understand your position.”
