Dink murder case: “Unfortunately, it wasn't prevented”
On the second day of
hearings of Hrant Dink case, cross examination of Ercan Demir
continues. He is answering the questions of the lawyers.
“Şükrü Yıldaz was the inspector”
Lawyer of Dink family Hakan Bakırcıoğlu asked about the intelligence reports informing that Erhan Tuncel, who was working as a police informant, and Yasin Hayal are in contact. Demir said that he doesn't know about this report.
Responding the claims that the inspector who came to Trabzon Security Directorate after the murder hadn't examined the 15 folders about the murder of Hrant Dink, Demir said that the mentioned inspector is Şükrü Yıldız, who is another suspect in the case.
“You can ask Engin Dinç”
Speaking about Engin Dinç's meeting with the informant Erhan Tuncel in his office, Demir said that it was an irregular conduct and he should have written a report after the meeting. Demir also said, “You can ask Engin Dinç about this issue.”
Hakan Bakırcıoğlu asked whether Trabzon Intelligence Branch discussed the condition of Hrant Dink in a time when he was punished with the charge of “insulting Turkish people” and the threats against him had been intensified. Demir answered as the following: “We carried out technical surveillance, arranged meetings and wire-tapped. We asked whether there is any new development. The atmosphere you were talking about was taking place in Istanbul. We were constantly talking about Hrant Dink. Unfortunately, the murder wasn't prevented despite all the information we have."
He doesn't remember the phone call
Lawyer Bakırcıoğlu asked about Demir's two phone calls with Metin Yıldız, who was an officer in Trabzon Gendarmerie Intelligence Branch. Demir said that he doesn't remember those phone calls. Metin Yıldız was detained after the coup attempt.
On the second of the hearings, arrested suspects Ramazan Akyürek and Ali Fuat Yılmazer, and Celalettin Cerrah, Reşat Altay, Ahmet İlhan Güler, Ercan Demir, Mehmet Ayhan, Faruk Sarı, Onur Karakaya, Özkan Mumcu, who are not under arrest, are present at the hearing.
Also, Tamer Bülent Demirel, Osman Gülbel, Ali Poyraz, Ogün Samast and Yasin Hayal are attending the hearing through video call.
