Two police officers arrested in Dink case

Former Chief of Police Özkan Mumcu and police officer Muhittin Zenit, for which arrest warrants had been issued within the scope of the Dink murder investigation, have been arrested

The prosecutor’s appeal to the discharge of former Chief of Police Özkan Mumcu and police officer Muhittin Zenit had recently been accepted and an arrest warrant was issued on the grounds of negligence in the murder.

Mumcu and Zenit provided statements on December 26 and were sent to court with a request for arrest on charges of wrongful death and malpractice, however the Magistrate discharged Mumcu and Zenit, which was appealed by the Prosecutor.

Responding to the appeal, the Istanbul 6th Criminal Court of Peace accepted the appeal of the Prosecutor, and issued an arrest warrant for Muhittin Zenit and Özkan Mumcu on the grounds of negligence in the murder, and that they had sent conflicting reports from Trabzon to Istanbul and Ankara.

Suspect Faruk Sarı, the former Trabzon Intelligence Branch Chief who had also provided a statement, was discharged under judicial supervision.
