Suspicion of attempted assassination against Demirtaş

A mark in the armed car that is assigned to HDP’s co-chair Demirtaş brought about questions concerning an attempted assassination. The police said that it might be a bullet mark, whereas the governorship stated that it is not caused by a firearm.

A mark in the armed car that is assigned to HDP’s co-chair Demirtaş brought about questions concerning an attempted assassination.

Conducting an investigation on the car, the police said that it might be a bullet mark, but the Governorship of Diyarbakir stated that there is no residue from a firearm.

Demirtaş tweeted in Kurdish saying that “Death is from Allah.”

The mark on the glass was detected last night. Driving from İstanbul to Diyarbakir, Demirtaş used his armed car.

After Demirtaş arrived home, his guards saw the mark on the glass. The bullet-proof glass wasn’t broken, but there was a mark that looks like a hole at the right side of the rear window.

The police stated that a stone wouldn’t cause such a hole and it might be caused by a gun.

Demirtaş: We hadn’t heard a voice

Speaking to Fırat News Agency, Demirtaş said, “A bullet mark is detected in the rear window. We hadn’t heard a voice.” Stating that the car was subjected to criminal investigation, he said that they hadn’t found a bullet.

HDP’s “assassination” statement

HDP’s co-chair Figen Yüksekdağ made a statement about the suspicion of attempted assassination in Diyarbakir. She said that they think that this was obviously an attempted assassination according to the witnesses and the obtained proofs.

Criticizing the statement of the Governorship of Diyarbakir, she said: “The Governorship of Diyarbakir, in a hurry, declared that the mark wasn’t caused by a firearm. They wanted to sweep this attempted assassination under the rug. Whenever they wish to conceal truth, they manage to complete the investigation as soon as possible. The governorship is the official authority which has to conduct a detailed investigation on this issue, but instead, they adopted a political attitude and position in order to sweep it under the rug.”

Yüksekdağ also stated that they think that this is not a criminal case, but rather a political case: “All the attacks against our party were signaling this attempted assassination. The perpetrators of the previous attacks haven’t been identified. The government and state protects them.”

A criminal complaint filed by Demirtaş

Selahattin Demirtaş, through his lawyer, filed a criminal complaint on the ground of an “attempted intentional murder”. In the petition that is delivered to Diyarbakir Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, statements that pointed HDP members as targets and attacks against HDP buildings and headquarters are also mentioned along with the details of the attempted assassination against Demirtaş. It is also stated that the state maintains its impunity policy toward the perpetrators of the attacks against HDP.
