Orthodox and Catholic churches to pray against ecological crisis

Last year on September 1, Catholic and Orthodox churches held “World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation” together for the first time. This year, the mass will be held in Istanbul.

Vicar Apostolic Rubén Tierrablanca González will be leading the mass, which will be held in Cathedral of the Holy Spirit. The mass will be start at 7 pm.

Last year, Pope Francis and Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew decided to celebrate September 1 as “World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation” in order to contribute to resolving the ecological crisis. It was also decided that works for raising awareness for preserving the ecology will be carried out.

Last year, Pope Francis released a message on the occasion of “World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation” and stated: “As Christians we wish to contribute to resolving the ecological crisis which humanity is presently experiencing. In doing so, we must first rediscover in our own rich spiritual patrimony the deepest motivations for our concern for the care of creation.”
