The special evening will be hosted by Şebnem Hassanisoughi, with musical performances by Maral Ayvaz, Ari Barokas, and Sasa Serap.
The award recognizes individuals who work for a freer and more just world free from discrimination, racism, and violence; who take personal risks in pursuit of these ideals; challenge established ways of thinking; and embrace the language of peace. It honors those whose work inspires others and offers hope to people engaged in the struggle for a better world.
Each year, the award is presented to two individuals or organizations, one from Turkey and one from abroad. The ceremony also shines a light on numerous inspiring initiatives and individuals, who are recognized under the heading “Lights.”
The ceremony will be livestreamed on Tuesday, September 15, beginning at 8:00 p.m. (Istanbul time, GMT+3) via the Hrant Dink Foundation’s website, YouTube channel, and social media accounts.
The 2026 jury consists of Asena Günal, Berkun Oya, Bonita Bennett, Bülent Şık, Cemal Kafadar, Fariba Nawa, Feray Salman, Helena Maleno Garzón, Kalypso Nicolaïdis, Naira Sultanyan, and Rakel Dink.
The award’s logo was designed by Bülent Erkmen, while the award statuette was designed by Erdağ Aksel. The music accompanying the award, “Dry Road,” was composed by Arto Tunçboyacıyan.
Last Year’s Recipients
Last year, the award was presented to Bülent Şık from Turkey, who has played an important role in helping the public access vital information by explaining technical subjects, including food safety, in clear and accessible language. He was recognized for his scientific integrity, his steadfast commitment to defending the public interest, and his courage in taking risks, as well as for his belief that knowledge should be regarded not as an instrument of power but as a common right of society.
The award was also presented to Helena Maleno Garzón of Spain, who has dedicated her life to exposing the hidden violence of borders and defending migrants’ right to life. For years, she has worked courageously to amplify the voices of thousands of people struggling to survive along migration routes.
