A church service was held at Malatya Surp Yerrortutyun (Three Horans – Taşhoran) Church after a four year interval. The last service at the church had been held on July 31, 2022The church, which also serves as a Cultural Center, sustained damage in the February 6, 2023 earthquakes. Structural reinforcement work was subsequently carried out. The service, held on July 26, attracted strong interest from the Armenian community of Malatya.
The service was officiated by Rev. Fr. Avedis Tabaşyan, Supervisor of the Armenian Communities of Anatolia. Fr. Tabaşyan emphasized the importance of reopening the church's doors for worship, even if only once a year. He expressed the hope that in the coming years larger groups would gather there, helping to preserve and protect the community's cultural heritage.
Following the service, participants visited the Malatya Armenian Cemetery and the Surp Krikor Lusavoriç Monastery (Vank Church), where prayers were offered for those who had passed away.
The Three Horans Church in Malatya began operating in 2021 under the name "Taşhoran Culture and Arts Center."
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Patriarch Maşalyan stated that although the church functioned as a cultural center, it would still be possible to hold ceremonies such as baptisms, weddings, and church services according to the needs of the Armenians of Malatya. The church had been restored through the initiative of the Malatya Governor's Office.
