Sevinj Vagifgizi, who has been in prison for 800 days, is paying the price for practicing investigative journalism in Azerbaijan. Imprisoned for investigating the regime's corruption, Vagifgizi shares the fate of 24 other journalists currently detained in Azerbaijan. To draw attention to the conditions of these detainees, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) placed four-square-meter containers in public squares, reminiscent of the cells where the journalists are held.

Detained on February 14, Die Welt Turkey correspondent Deniz Yücel is arrested last night on the charge of “propagating for a terrorist organization and inciting hatred and enmity among people”. German Chancellor Angela Merkel stated that the arrest is disproportionately harsh and disappointing.

Today, the “visiting editors-in-chief” of closed-down Özgür Gündem newspaper started to stand trial. The first hearing, where Ayşe Düzkan and Ragıp Duran stood trial, has been postponed to December 15.

Speaking to Agos, Selina Doğan said, “The police said that the passports of almost all journalists have been canceled after July 15 as a precaution.”

Journalist Hayko Bağdat's passport was seized by police officers, when he arrived at the airport on the evening of August 6.
