The Ecumenical Federation of Constantinopolitans (EFC) has sent a petition to Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (GNA) Numan Kurtulmuş on the occasion of the 71st anniversary of the September 6–7, 1955 pogrom. EFC called for the events to be brought before Parliament, explicitly condemned, and for concrete steps to be taken to ensure the continued existence of the Istanbul Greek community.

When a mob of approximately 50,000 shouting and pouring into the squares, the next stage of the plan began: destruction of all property belonging to Greeks in Istanbul, the desecration and humiliation of everything sacred to the Greek community, and widespread looting. The instructions were clear: nothing was to be left standing. What followed was absolute hell that lasted for hours.

The Greeks will hold a memorial ceremony in Istanbul on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of September 6-7 Pogrom. On September 6, Yeniköy Panagia Greek Orthodox Church and School Foundation will hold a memorial ceremony at the church for the ones who lost their lives during the pogrom.
