Ara Malikian’s Violin Set to Resound in Yerevan
Known for his exciting performances and sold out concerts worldwide, violinist Ara Malikian has previously performed twice in Yerevan, leaving a lasting impression on the audience. This time, the artist returns with a new program blending new emotions, new ideas, and classical mastery with contemporary expression.
The main theme of the Yerevan performance is the "Intruso" album, which Malikian will present to his Armenian audience. Through his compositions, Malikian narrates the story of a life spent moving from one country to another, exploring themes of identity, displacement, and belonging. Born in Lebanon, Ara Malikian has lived and worked in Spain for many years. His talent emerged at an early age despite the difficulties he faced growing up during the Lebanese civil war and often having to live and work in bunkers. He gave his first major concert at the age of 12, and two years later, with the support of conductor Hans Herbert Jöris, he won a scholarship from the German government to study at the Hannover University of Music and Drama. Malikian later continued his education at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, taking lessons from world-renowned professors.
In 2015, in collaboration with the Royal Theatre of Madrid, he re-released an album celebrating his 15th year of residence in Spain. His recent major tour, "15," achieved great success with both audiences and critics, reaching over 175,000 spectators in more than 150 concerts.
His concert in Turkey had been canceled
Malikian then embarked on a world tour with his subsequent album, "The Incredible Story of the Violin / Kemanın İnanılmaz Hikayesi," performing on the world's most prestigious stages in cities like London, Paris, Rome, Moscow, Buenos Aires, Mexico City, Lima, Santiago, Beijing, Hong Kong, Istanbul, Madrid, Lisbon, and Berlin.
In 2019, Malikian launched the "Royal Garage" world tour with the release of the album of the same name, collaborating with acclaimed artists such as Andrés Calamaro, Enrique Bunbury, and Serj Tankian. This was followed by the "Petit Garage" tour, which was born out of the pandemic period and the legacy of the previous tour, featuring intimate violin-pi**ano performances in smaller venues, from the Dubai Opera to Michoacán in Mexico and the Royal Palace of Madrid.
Ara Malikian, who had previously given concerts in Turkey, also had his Istanbul and Ankara concerts on June 9, 2022, canceled after he was targeted on social media.
