The church and its adjoining shops were damaged in the February 6, 2023 earthquakes. The total cost of restoring the church, the shops, and the auxiliary buildings could reach 77 million TL (app. $1,640,000). An application had been submitted to benefit from the 25 million TL (app. $532,000) fund allocated by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism for the restoration of historic buildings following the earthquakes.
At the end of June, Foundation Chairman Yusuf Tabaş and Rev. Fr. Avedis Tabaşyan, the clergyman serving the Hatay churches and spiritual supervisor of the Armenian communities in Anatolia, visited Armenian Patriarch Sahak Maşalyan at his summer residence in Kınalıada. They announced that the Ministry of Culture and Tourism had informed them that 5 million TL (app. $106,000) in financial assistance would be provided for the church's restoration. In a statement to Agos, Yusuf Tabaş announced that the agreement for the 5 million TL grant had been signed.
A church service will be held at Kınalıada Surp Krikor Lusavoriç Church to raise financial support for the İskenderun Church Foundation. The service, to be held on Sunday, August 2, will be officiated by Fr. Tabaşyan. Under the slogan "Let's Protect It Today, Be Proud of It Tomorrow," the foundation's board has shared bank account details for donations through its social media accounts. The foundation is also seeking financial support from Armenians living in the diaspora.
