Health crisis added to Rita Kasapyan’s housing struggle
Increasing poverty within the Armenian community is deepening the housing and health crisis, particularly for the elderly. The experiences of 82-year-old Arşaluys Rita Kasapyan, a resident of Bakırköy, continue to be one of the most striking examples of this reality.
Last week, we reported that Kasapyan would be forced to leave her home because she had been unable to pay her rent for seven months. Following our report, many individuals took action, and the amount required to pay off the accumulated rent debt was raised in a short time. However, due to current conditions, it was not possible for Kasapyan to remain in the same house, and a search for a new home began.
While this process was ongoing, Rita Kasapyan suffered an accident. According to a statement shared on social media by Nurhan Çetinkaya, a member of the Armenian community, Kasapyan was hospitalized due to a hip fracture caused by a fall. It was noted that necessary medical tests are ongoing and her condition is being closely monitored.
As of last night, contact was made with Kasapyan’s daughter, and information was shared that comprehensive preparations would be made prior to surgery due to her age. It was stated that updates regarding the treatment process would be shared with the public. According to a message conveyed through her relatives, Rita Kasapyan sends her greetings to everyone and expressed her gratitude to those who provided support.
