The new term of the Hrant Dink Foundation’s Western Armenian program, which has been ongoing since 2016, is about to begin.
As part of the program, which aims to support the learning and use of the language, participants will have access not only to Western Armenian courses but also to conversation workshops and online resources.
Rather than preserving Western Armenian solely as a form of cultural heritage at the risk of extinction, the Hrant Dink Foundation aims to pass the language on to new generations through teaching methods that keep it alive and enable it to adapt to a changing world.
New term begins September 21
The new term of the Foundation’s online Western Armenian education program consists of two sessions. The first will take place from September 21, 2026, to January 25, 2027, and the second from February 15 to June 21, 2027.
Each session will consist of a total of 72 hours of instruction and will be completed over 18 weeks. The program will be conducted online via Zoom, with two-hour classes held twice a week.
The deadline to apply for the program is September 17, 2026.
Conversation workshops begin in October
Conversation workshops will also continue in the new term for people with a basic knowledge of Western Armenian, particularly those who wish to improve their speaking skills and vocabulary.
Beginning October 12, 2026, the workshops will be held online once a week for 10 weeks. The days and times of the workshops, as well as registration dates, will be announced in September.
Online resources for Western Armenian
In addition to its educational programs, the Hrant Dink Foundation offers a range of digital resources for people learning Western Armenian.
The Foundation’s webinar, “Online Resources for Western Armenian,” introduces a variety of resources, including spelling and orthography-checking programs, audio recordings, articles, and videos.
The video series “Writing the Armenian Alphabet / Ինչպէս կը Գրենք Հայերէնի Այբուբենը” also aims to support learners of all ages in the process of learning the Armenian alphabet.
The program is led by Şuşan Özoğlu, who taught and served as an administrator at Armenian schools for many years, and Tamar Mangasar, who received specialized training in Armenian language teaching methods and pedagogy in Armenia and has been teaching since 2010.
