Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly Numan Kurtulmuş attended the 20th Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (PUIC) held in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, and delivered remarks during the opening session. Kurtulmuş commented on a number of political developments, including the current state of Islamic countries, the agreement signed between Iran and the United States, and Israel’s attacks on Palestine.
Kurtulmuş also spoke about relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Drawing attention to developments in the Caucasus, he said the following:
“Karabakh, a territory of Azerbaijan, was unlawfully occupied by Armenians for more than 30 years. As a result of the victory achieved by Azerbaijan with great success, these lands have been liberated, and now the doors to a new era have opened in the Caucasus as well. I would like to express that we welcome and appreciate the peace negotiations being conducted between Azerbaijan and Armenia, which have achieved significant progress. We support this peace process in the Caucasus to the very end. I hope that, just as in the peace between the United States and Iran, a permanent, final peace will be achieved between Azerbaijan and Armenia in the Caucasus, and that these lands will remain a region where peace and prosperity prevail forever.”
