The inspection carried out by inspectors from the Ministry of National Education has caused concern among families from Armenia. A.H., a mother of two, shared her feelings and thoughts with Agos. The mother, A.H., said that she has been living in Istanbul for 14 years and that her children has been attending an Armenian school for nine years. She said that she learned about the development from reports in the media. A.H. said that she contacted the school but was unable to speak with anyone because of the summer holiday. The Armenian parent said that her children were upset after hearing the news and that they, too, were worried about their children’s future. Pointing out that her children are happy at the Armenian school, A.H. said that she was extremely satisfied with the approach of the school administrators, teachers, and staff. A.H. emphasized that she does not want her children’s registrations to be transferred to a state or private school, and that if they were transferred, her children’s routines would be disrupted, in which case they would consider returning to Armenia. A.H. also underlined that her children had not experienced any discrimination whatsoever throughout their education at the Armenian school. A.H. added that other families from Armenia were also concerned about the development.
According to the latest development, Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin told AKP MP Sevan Sıvacıoğlu that “there is no new regulation regarding guest students studying at Armenian community schools, and that schools are continuing their educational activities in accordance with the existing regulation.”
