Pashinyan: We must build bridges on the Türkiye-Armenia border
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said at a conference he attended yesterday that it is necessary to build a bridge or bridges on the Armenia-Türkiye border, at least at the Akhurik (Akkaya) and Margara (Alican) crossing points.
Speaking at the Security Forum titled "Armenia and Peace: At the Crossroads of Risks and Opportunities," the Prime Minister used the following expressions: "It is obvious that bridges need to be built on the Armenia-Türkiye border. At least one bridge each must be built at Margara and Akhurik. Furthermore, it is also clear that customs and border administrations must be built at Akhurik and Yeraskh."
Pashinyan also stated that the energy transmission lines extending along the Armenia-Türkiye border need to be renewed because some infrastructures along the border date back to the Soviet era.
The Armenian Prime Minister continued his words as follows: "We have already started receiving signals from the private sector regarding this issue. The private sector asks us if they can evaluate their projects, and we say 'yes, you can evaluate them.' Why do we say 'yes'? Because at the negotiation table where I met with President Erdoğan, at that level, our issues and vision were resolved."
Logical step, positive atmosphere
On the other hand, on the same day, following the publication of the Trump Path or the Trade and Regional Integration Partnership Program (TRIPP) Implementation Framework by Armenia and the USA, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan expressed his expectation for progress to be made in the normalization process of relations with Türkiye.
Pashinyan spoke as follows: "The next logical step is for us to see progress in Armenia-Türkiye relations. We hope that the processes resolved at the level of political dialogue will also be reflected on the ground in practical application. The situation we are currently in is truly an incredible and almost unimaginably positive atmosphere. This situation, of course, does not mean that all problems have been solved, but essentially, all the solutions to these problems have already been determined."
Peace with Azerbaijan
Prime Minister Pashinyan emphasized that the joint statement of Armenia and the USA regarding the Trump Path Implementation Framework has an importance of a "cornerstone" quality on the path to the institutionalization of the peace established between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Stating that Yerevan and Baku are moving forward with much larger steps than initially foreseen, Pashinyan drew attention to the trade relations that have already begun between Armenia and Azerbaijan: "Today, the concrete manifestations of Armenia-Azerbaijan bilateral trade have been realized much earlier than Armenia, the international community, and perhaps even Azerbaijan expected."
