Taken into custody from her house on December 20, Prof. İştar Gözadyın is arrested. Her husband İskender Savaşır announced the arrest via his Twitter account.
Gözaydın was the head of Sociology Department of Gediz University and she was suspended on July 21 because of her statements against death penalty and violence.
Gediz University was shut down by an emergency decree on July 22.
Anadolu News Agency reported that Gözaydan is arrested on charge of “being a member of a terrorist organization” as part of the investigation against Gediz University personnel concerning “Fethullah Gülen Terrorist Organization”.
