Turkey's celebrated writer Vedat Türkali passed away at 97 this morning in Yalova.

A car bomb hit police headquarters in Cizre on Cizre-Şırnak highway. 11 police officers are killed in attack and there are more than 70 injured.

Though we watched live what happened on July 15, we still don't know exactly how the attempted coup unfolded behind the scenes. There are lots of reports and information about this issue, but they are just too new. We talked to Ahmet İnsel about what happened and the possible developments after the attempted coup.

After the attempted coup on July 15, which left 204 dead and 1491 injured, a wide operation in state institutions continue; officials are either arrested or suspended. As of Wednesday, some 2000 people are arrested and more than 50,000 civil servants are suspended as part of the investigation reaching to Turkish Armed Forces, public institutions and judiciary. It is expected that the investigations, detentions and purge will go on.

Now, we need democracy and human rights more than ever.

After cabinet meeting, President Erdoğan announced that state of emergency is declared for 3 months.

Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office had issued detention order for 134 judges and prosecutors. 47 of them are arrested.

Turkey’s Council of Higher Education (YÖK) banned all academics, including rectors, from going abroad and recalled the ones who are currently abroad. Also, 1577 university deans have been asked to resign.

Human Rights Association (İHD) and Human Rights Foundation of Turkey (TİHV) reacted against the demand of death penalty that was expressed during the demonstrations after the coup attempt in Turkey: “It should be considered that the attempt to bring capital punishment back would have grave legal and political consequences both in national and international scale.”

The confidentiality order on Suruç massacre investigation still holds.

Cabinet gathered for the first time after the coup attempt on July 15. After the meeting, Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım spoke to the press with the ministers.

After the attempted coup, some protesters damaged the monument that was built in the memory of people who died in Ankara massacre on October 10. Yesterday, the monument was restored.

Yesterday, Minister of Justice Bekir Bozdağ said, “The cleansing is continuing. Around 6000 detentions took place. The number could surpass 6000.” Early in this morning, 7850 police officers are detained and also a search was carried out in the Air Force Academy.

Last night, some people protesting the attempted coup attacked St. Mary Catholic Church in Trabzon and Protestant Church in Malatya with stones and hammers. They tried to enter the churches.
