Churches in Istanbul met on “Christianity with its Basic Principles”
On October 15, Fener Rum Orthodox Patriarchate, under the leadership of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, hosted a meaningful meeting with the participation of the representatives from all churches. The prominent figures from the churches in Turkey gathered together for the launching meeting of “Christianity with its Basic Principles” which is to be expected to lead important developments in the Christian community.

Athens Mosque construction passes in Greece Parliament, as eyes turn to Halki seminary
The Greek Parliament has passed a law that will pave the way for the construction of a mosque in Athens. This was among the conditions required by Ankara for the opening of the Theological School of Halki in the framework of reciprocity. Ankara is now expected to take a step regarding the seminary.

12 Dersim Armenians baptized to complete return to their identity
Following a six-month course of church doctrine and basic knowledge of Christian belief, 12 more Dersim Armenians took their first step back to Christianity with a collective baptism ceremony. Two married couples also held religious engagement ceremonies following the baptism ceremony held on 9 May 2015, Saturday at the Yeşilköy Surp Istepanos Church.

100 bells ring at Kumkapı Patriarchal Church
Surp Badarak mass in memory of April 24 has been held at the Turkey Armenian Patriarchal Church. Led by Deputy Patriarch Aram Ateşyan, the ceremony was also attended by EU Minister Volkan Bozkır. President Erdoğan’s message was also read at the ceremony where white doves symbolizing peace were released and bells were rung 100 times.

Patriarchate: Emphasis on ‘shared pain’, not ‘Genocide’
The Patriarchate of the Armenians of Turkey will hold mass on April 24 in memory of ‘those who lost their lives in 1915’. In his speech at mass, Archbishop Aram Ateşyan will not use the term “Genocide” but will emphasize “shared pain”.

Church bells will ring across the world on April 23 –only not in Turkey
Within the scope of the Armenian Genocide Centennial Commemoration events, all Armenian Churches across the world will ring their bells at 19.15 on April 23, Thursday, in commemoration of the victims of the Genocide. However, the Istanbul Armenian Patriarchate is not participating in this commemoration ceremony.

Treasury demands ‘occupation fine’ from Bulgarian Foundation for its own building
The State of Turkey, after having seized a building that belongs to the Bulgarian Exarchate Orthodox Church Foundation, is now demanding a fee in return for occupying the building for 3 years –after returning the building to the foundation. The Treasury has issued a 50 thousand TL fine to the foundation.

Armenians in Anatolia wait for clergy
Although there are Armenian churches in Diyarbakır, Van and Kayseri, regular mass cannot be held because religious clergy is not appointed by the Patriarchate. There are no permanent religious officials in churches in Turkey apart from the churches in Istanbul and the church in İskenderun.

Suspect confusion at Kadıköy Church arson case
Arson, not an accident, was the cause of the fire that broke out on the night of December 7, Sunday, at the building that is home to KKBD (Holy Bible Society) and KUT (Kadıköy International Community Church). According to Pam Ohanyan of KUT, thousands of Holy Books and CDs were destroyed in the fire that broke out on the floor where the library of the church was also located.
