HRANT DINK COMMEMORATED ON THE 19TH ANNIVERSARY OF HIS ASSASSINATION
"He never gave up the language he believed in, and he never gave up on his [home]land"
The demand for justice that remains undiminished after 19 years resonated once again in front of the Sebat Apartment on the 19th anniversary of Hrant Dink’s assassination. Hrant Dink, the founder and editor-in-chief of our newspaper who used to say "It is enough if even one person reads it," was commemorated by thousands of people from all walks of life with the slogan "We are all Hrant." Leda Özber, who is one of Dink's oldest colleagues and the assistant editor-in-chief and visual director of AGOS, delivered this year’s commemoration speech. She spoke about Dink’s understanding of journalism, his struggle for peace, and the 30 year story of Agos shaped by the labor of women.

In Hrant's footsteps, in pursuit of justice
On the 19th anniversary of the assassination of our newspaper's founder and editor-in-chief, Hrant Dink, letters sent from prison by the detained Mayor of Şişli, Resul Emrah Şahan, Deputy Mayor of Şişli, Ebru Özdemir, and Gezi trial prisoners Osman Kavala and Çiğdem Mater were read at the commemoration held in front of the Sebat Apartment. Demands for justice, calls for confrontation with the past, and an emphasis on solidarity stood out in the letters.

Pashinyan: We must build bridges on the Türkiye-Armenia border
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, touching upon relations with Türkiye at a conference he attended yesterday, stated, "The situation we are currently in is truly incredible and almost unimaginably positive." Emphasizing "concrete steps," Pashinyan said that relations with Azerbaijan are also developing faster than even Azerbaijan expected.

Dink Family's appeal regarding the Samast ruling rejected at the Regional Court of Appeal
The charge of “Committing a crime on behalf of an organization without being a member of the organization” against Samast and some defendants was dropped due to the statute of limitations. The Dink Family lawyers appealed the decision. However, the Regional Court of Appeal decided within the context of the file that the Dink Family lawyers “did not have the right and authority to appeal the judgment regarding the nature of the crime.” The Dink Family lawyers will take the decision to the Court of Cassation.

A Strange Visit: Ümit Özdağ at the Armenian Patriarchate
Victory Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ, who frequently shares nationalist posts on his social media accounts, visited the Armenian Patriarchate of Turkey. According to the statement made by the Patriarchate, Özdağ emphasized that the majority of the centuries-long experience of coexistence passed with good relations and stated that some periods in the past were disrupted by "imperialist provocations." Patriarch Maşalyan, on the other hand, emphasized that expressions that occasionally turn into hate speech in society disturb the youth of Turkey's Armenian community in particular.

The Feast of Epiphany, symbolizing the baptism of Jesus Christ, was celebrated in Istanbul with the "Cross Retrieval Ceremony from the Sea" led by the Fener Greek Patriarchate. As part of a tradition maintained for centuries, Vasilios Konstantinidis retrieved the cross thrown into the Golden Horn by Patriarch Bartholomew among 40 participants. Gülmen and Özakça detained in midnight raid
Dismissed academic Nuriye Gülmen and teacher Semih Özakça are on the 75th day of their hunger strike, which they started with the demand of being returned to their jobs. Last night, police raided their houses and detained Gülmen and Özakça. Lawyer Selçuk Kozaağaçlı stated that the ground of detention is the following: “the protest might turn into an indefinite hunger strike or trigger events like Gezi Park protests or Tekel strike.”

Story of academics who stay to resist
The state of emergency declared after the coup attempt on July 15 resulted in a purge in universities that has never been seen before in Turkey's recent history. The emergency decrees have been used for dismissing both experienced academics who carried out many researches in universities and young academics whose careers had just begun. However, despite everything that happened, some academics hold on to their profession, which they define as “reason for being”. In this regard, Kocaeli Solidarity Academy is a precursor and guiding initiative. Having completed its first term of “alternative education”, it has also the purpose of establishing an open and free school of life for people with a new two-tear program.

Deciphered telegram reveals the genocide
Historian Taner Akçam decpihred the telegram by executive of Teşikilat-ı Mahsusa (Secret Organization) and Commitee of Union and Progress Bahaettin Şakir dated July 4, 1915. The telegram is about coordination of deportation and annihilation of Armenians. The letterhead on the telegram proves that it is indeed original.
