Tahir Elçi is released

Diyarbakır Bar President Tahir Elçi is released by the court to which he was taken with an arrest warrant.

Diyarbakir Bar President Tahir Elçi is released by the court to which he was taken with an arrest warrant. 

Tahir Elçi was taken into custody around 2.00 a.m. in his office in Diyarbakır with the arrest warrant that was issued by Bakırköy Second Penal Court of Peace.

Having referred to the court because the statements he made on a TV show, Tahir Elçi was taken to anti-terror branch of Diyarbakir security directorate accompanied by an armored vehicle, a water cannon vehicle and two buses of riot police.  

Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office of Bakırköy launched an investigation against Tahir Elçi, because he said, “PKK is an armed political movement, though some of its actions can be considered as terrorism,” in a TV show.
