2015 the immigration year: 3695 people died on the way to Europe

According to the report of International Organization for Migration (IOM), over 1 million immigrants reached Europe overland and by sea. And 3695 people died on the way to a new life.

IOM declared that 1.005.504 immigrants reached Europe as of yesterday.

According to BBC’s report, the number of immigrants reached Europe this year is four times more than that of 2014. 800.000 of the immigrants who fled from Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan went to Greece from Turkey by sea and headed to other European countries from there.

The countries from where immigrants entered Europe are Greece, Bulgaria, Italy, Spain, Malta and Cyprus.

In 2015, 3695 immigrants were drowned or lost on the way to Europe.

Some EU countries continue to block the borders with fences or restrain the immigrants from entering their countries despite Schengen Agreement.

It is reported that most of the immigrants who can reach Greece cross Balkan States and go to Northern Europe. However, Macedonia no longer accepts the immigrants coming from Greece, unless they are from a war territory.

Last week, EU decided to deploy more Frontex (European Agency for the Management of Operational Cooperation at the External Borders) officials in Greece, since the human traffic is very busy there.

60 million people displaced

According to UN’s report released last week, over 60 million people were displaced in 2015.
