“Cleansing” operations continue after the attempted coup

Yesterday, Minister of Justice Bekir Bozdağ said, “The cleansing is continuing. Around 6000 detentions took place. The number could surpass 6000.” Early in this morning, 7850 police officers are detained and also a search was carried out in the Air Force Academy.

Early in this morning, police special operations forces stayed in the academy for about an hour. Searching through some parts of the school, some police officers and gendarmerie forces accompanying them left the building. 

Some tankers and civil vehicles are still waiting at the entrance of the academy. There is also 3 armed vehicles and a group of police officers from the special operations forces in front of the building.

According to Mehmet Can Toptaş from Hürriyet newspaper, General Directorate of Security has taken action last night, commanding detention for 7850 police officers across Turkey.

Suspected police officers were called to the police stations, where their guns and identities were taken away. It is reported that legal process will start later.
