Co-Mayors of Diyarbakir detained

Co-Mayors of Diyarbakir Gültan Kışanak and Fırat Anlı are detained. The police forces searched the office of the municipality. No one is allowed in the office.

Co-Mayors of Diyarbakir Gültan Kışanak and Fırat Anlı are detained by the Diyarbakir counter-terrorism branch. 

Kışanak was detained in Diyarbakir Airport. Her house was searched.

Police forces raided the house of Anlı. After the search, Anlı was detained.

Search in the municipality continued all night long

The search started yesterday evening and completed this morning around 5 am. The police forces didn't allow Diyarbakir Bar Association Chair Ahmet Özmen and other lawyers to accompany the search. Though the search is completed, no one is still allowed in the building.

DBP co-chair Sebahat Tuncel and HDP MPs waited in front of the municipality till the morning.

This is a coup”

Sebahat Tuncel made a statement: “This is a coup against the will of our people. This municipality belongs to all of us. Our people should stand in solidarity. I urge all the peoples of Turkey to stand in solidarity. This is a coup. This concerns us all. I call out to the west, working class and all laborers. It is about time to stand in solidarity. We continue to fight against this unlawful action. We will be in front of the municipality at 11.00 am. We urge all of our people to be with us.”

HDP's reaction

HDP also reacted against the detentions through the official Twitter account of party's headquarters: “We condemn the detention of Diyarbakir co-mayors Gültan Kışanak and Fırat Anlı. We demand immediate release. Our people won't accept this and will exercise their political rights.”

Statement from the chief prosecutor's office

Diyarbakir Chief Public Prosecutor Office made a statement about the detentions. It is declared that Gültan Kışanak is detained on charge of “being a member of armed terrorist organization PKK/KCK” and Fırat Anlı is detained because of his attempts for “separating a region under the state sovereignty from the administration of the state”.

It is also claimed that there are strong evidences indicating criminal suspicion.
