Paylan's proposal on minority schools, rejected by Parliamentary Committee

HDP Co-Chair Garo Paylan submitted a proposal to the Planning and Budget Committee to "increase resources for minority schools" during the 2022 budget meetings of the Ministry of National Education held on Tuesday, November 2nd. The proposal presented by Paylan was rejected by the votes of AKP-MHP deputies, members of the Planning and Budget Committee.

During the voting, it was observed that the IYI Party and CHP deputies did not vote and abstained.

According to the parliamentary minutes, Paylan suggested during the meeting to increase the source of 40 million TL in the budget of the Ministry of National Education for minority schools and, “Minority schools are also the schools of this country; Armenians, Greeks and Jews are trying to keep minority schools alive, and they are trying to pay teachers, they are trying to meet the needs of students, but they do not have enough resources.” he said.

Paylan said, “When I looked at the budget of the Ministry of National Education, I saw that it spent 10 -12 thousand liras per student; There are 4,000 students in minority schools, and minority schools demand their rights from the budget, Mr. Minister. If you calculate 4.000 students from 10 thousand liras, the total will be 40 million TL. We propose increasing the budget for minority schools. I am sure that both the Minister and the AKP deputies, who claim that there is justice and equality, will support our proposal and minority schools will get their due from the budget in this country.” said.

Paylan's proposal to the Committee, for the budget increase of minority schools was rejected by the votes of AKP-MHP deputies, members of the Planning and Budget Committee.
