HDP: The President and the government are responsible of the attack

The People’s Democratic Party (HDP) had condemned the bomb attacks on its party bureaus in Adana and Mersin with a written statement: “Dark forces supported by the government want to prevent the progress and election work of our party”

Two simultaneous bomb attacks have been carried out against the Seyhan District Bureau in Adana and the Mersin Provincial Bureau of the People’s Democratic Party (HDP). 2 people were injured in the attack in Adana, and one person was injured in Mersin.

The bombings coincided with the HDP’s rallies. A mass rally was held yesterday in Adana with the participation of party co-leaders Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ. HDP co-leader Demirtaş was to hold a rally at 5 pm in Mersin in the square next to Tevfik Sırrı Gür Stadium.

Mersin rally to go ahead as planned

The HDP’s Mersin rally has not been postponed. Demirtaş made a statement via twitter saying, “We will be at our rally in Mersin at 5 pm today. We will be even more passionate, joyful and spirited. We hope to see everyone there”.

The HDP Headquarters made a written statement condemning the attacks, underlining that by making their party into a target, President Tayyip Erdoğan, the Prime Minister and the entire government were responsible of the bomb attacks.

The statement from the HDP is as follows:

“As the June 7 elections approach, attacks targeting our party are increasing. Our party buildings, vehicles, members and volunteers have been attacked in more than 60 instances so far, including our Headquarters. The bomb attacks carried out against our Adana and Mersin bureaus this morning reveal the scale of the assault. 6 administrators and workers of our party were injured in the attack targeting our Adana Provincial Party Building.”

Dark forces supported by the government want to prevent the progress and election work of our party. The political responsibility of these attacks lies with first and foremost President Erdoğan, the Prime Minister and other members of the AKP government. This mentality, which in their every speech seeks to make our party into a target and insult and defame our co-leaders, party administrators and parliamentary candidates has produced new results today in Adana and Mersin.

It should be known by all that no power will succeed in preventing the HDP coming together with the peoples of Turkey. Our calls for a ‘New Life’ and ‘Great Humanity’ continue to come to life across all corners of Turkey.

We strictly condemn the bomb attacks carried out against our Adana and Mersin bureaus and expect those responsible to be identified immediately.”

Çelik: Special unit to shed light on attacks

Minister of Culture and Tourism and AKP Adana MP Ömer Çelik made a statement via twitter saying a special unit composed of Police, Gendarmerie and Intelligence forces had been formed to shed light on the attacks. Çelik condemned the attacks saying, “This attack has been carried out on the HDP, on all political parties and the election process.”

Davutoğlu: Some may carry out acts of provocation

Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu stated that he had issued the necessary directives for the identification of the attackers, adding, “Some may carry out acts of provocation. We have been expecting such acts. We condemn them, and announce that we will do everything necessary to track the perpetrators down.”

Kalın: We condemn the attacks, accusations unacceptable

Presidential Spokesperson İbrahim Kalın made the following statement:

“We condemn the attacks on the HDP Adana Provincial Directorate and the Mersin District Directorate. Accusations against our Esteemed President, Prime Minister and government before the background of the attack is unknown are unacceptable. These friends of ours should wait first until evidence that will shed light on the incident is obtained. Then, if they wish, can they make a statement after evaluating the incident with common sense.”
