Armenia Human Rights Ombudsman: Torture continues

Karen Andreasian, Armenia Human Rights Ombudsman, has stated in his annual report that serious human rights violations continued in Armenia.

Andreasian’s report points to torture carried out by the police as the area of most serious human rights violations in the country. The report adds that the Special Investigative Service (SIS) displayed continued failure to investigate torture allegations. 

Speaking to Azatutyun, Human rights activist and writer Zhanna Aleksanian, supporting the findings of the report, stated that torture frequently results in the imprisonment of innocent people charged with serious crimes.
