On February 11, Özgecan Aslan was killed by the people on the minibus she got on.  Yesterday, the court made the ruling on her case and Ahmet Suphi Altındöken, Fatih Gökçe and Necmettin Altındöken were sentenced to penal servitude for life.

It was the demanded sentence

After the ruling was announced, the lawyer of Aslan family Efkan Bolaç made a statement: “It seems that they will be in prison for over 40 years. It was the sentence that we demanded. It will be a precedent case. We hope that this ruling will set an example for all femicide cases. We want a legal process without reduced sentences with excuses like “loving too much”. Femicides are political; they increased almost 1500%. Deterrent measures should be taken in order to prevent femicides.”

Women were present in front of the courthouse

Before the hearing, various woman organizations gathered in front of the court house. They made statements saying that the murderers should be sentenced to penal servitude for life.

HDP’s co-vice chair and Adana MP Meral Danış Beştaş said: “This is a symbolic case. It is about all the women who are and were subjected to violence.”
