As I mentioned before, the term “peace process” was the inspiration for this series of articles. A big question had been on my mind. Had a similar process ever taken place in history? Had the laying down of arms and the disarmament of the Kurds ever come onto the agenda? In the 1910 newspaper Azadamard, we read that the government had taken the issue seriously under the headline “The Security of Anatolia, the Disarmament of the Kurds.”

Armenian, Turkish, and Kurdish workers lived together under harsh socio-economic conditions. This undoubtedly left its mark on various aspects of the political destiny and spiritual life of these peoples. Chachani’s compilation contains a considerable number of reports and commentaries indicating that as the oppression and exploitation by Turkish pashas and Kurdish aghas and beys increased, the friendship between Armenian and Kurdish workers grew stronger and they began to act together.

The debates that started after the urgent expropriation decision, which involves the churches in Diyarbakir, made the history of Sur, Suriçi a current issue. Having an important role in the history of Anatolian Armenians and Christians, Diyarbakir, and especially Suriçi, have been at the center of such practices throughout its history.
