AINA: ISIS destroyed 16 churches in Syria

Assyrian International News Agency (AINA) released a list of churches in Syria which were destroyed by ISIS and other radical Islamist groups. In the list, there are 3 Armenian churches.

According to AINA’s list, 16 churches were attacked and destroyed and a monastery is demolished.

Here are the Armenian churches in the list:

- St. Rita Tilel Armenian Church in Aleppo was bombed by ISIS on April 28, 2014.

- The church that was built in Der Zor in memory of Armenian Genocide was destroyed by ISIS on September 2014.

- The Armenian Catholic Church in Raqqa was torched by ISIS.

Greek Catholic Church of Our Lady of the Annunciation in Raqqa and St. Elian Monastery in al-Qaryatayn are in the list of destroyed worship places.

On February 23, 2015, ISIS attacked 35 Syriac villages in Hasakah and took 253 Syriacs hostage. In the following months, ISIS attacked 11 Syriac churches in the region.
