Armenia to support for the restoration of Palmyra

Armenian Ministry of Culture announced that they will provide support for the restoration of Palmyra, which was taken back by Assad regime's army on March.

On May 23, Syrian Minister of Culture Issam Khalil and Armenian Ambassador to Syria Arshak Poladian came together in Damascus. Arshak Poladian announced that Armenia will provide support for the restoration of Palmyra.

Being in the list of Cultural Heritage of UNESCO since 1980, Palmyra was seized by ISIS about a year ago. On March, Assad regime's army took it back.

According to SANA's report, Syrian Minister of Culture Issam Khalil said that a national committee has been formed to draw up the necessary plans for the restoration of Palmyra.

It is also reported that archaeologists from Germany, France, England and the US participated in the restoration works.

Entering the site on April, UNESCO committee conducted an examination in Palmyra Museum and archaeological site. The committee, after its examination, stated that the statues and tombs that are too large to be removed before the occupation are destroyed.
