Boğaziçi University reacts against the abolition of rectoral election

Academic staff of Boğaziçi University protested the abolition of the rectoral election. With an emergency decree issued on October 29, rectoral elections are abolished. Stating that this decree will damage the whole country, academics from Boğaziçi University protested this decree.

The current rector of Boğaziçi University Gülay Barbarosoğlu re-elected on July 12. Getting 86% of the votes, Barbarosoğlu has beaten a record in the history of Boğaziçi University. 384 academics voted for Barbarosoğlu, whereas Prof. Dr. Vedat Akgiray, her closest competitor, got only 40 votes. A rector is yet to be assigned.
