Crackdown on HDP continues: Beştaş arrested

HDP Adana MP Meral Danış Beştaş was detained and released provisionally before. Yesterday, the prosecutor objected the release. After the objection, Beştaş was detained again and then arrested.

HDP Adana MP Meral Danış Beştaş is arrested. 

On January 27, Beştaş was detained as part of the same investigation and then released provisionally. Diyarbakir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office objected to release. Yesterday, Beştaş was detained again and then arrested on the charge of “being a member of an armed organization”. 

It is reported that Beştaş is arrested on the ground of three messages that had been shared by HDP HQ Twitter account during Kobane protests on October 6-8, 2014. 

11 out of 59 MPs are arrested

HDP co-chairs Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ, HDP Group Deputy Chairperson İdris Balüken, HDP MPs Leyla Birlik, Selma Irmak, Nursel Aydoğan, Gülser Yıldırım, Ferhat Encü and Abdullah Zeydan had been arrested on November 4, 2016. 

HDP Hakkari MP Nihat Akdoğan was arrested on November 7, 2016. 

Ziya Pir, Sırrı Süreyya Önder, İmam Taşçıer, Hüda Kaya, Altan Tan, Ayhan Bilgen, Lezgin Botan and Nadir Yıldırım had been detained and then released provisionally. 

Arrest warrants had been issued for HDP Şırnak MP Faysal Sarıyıldız and Van MP Tuğba Hezer. They are currently abroad. 

Diyarbakir 2nd High Penal Court also issued bench warrant for HDP MPs Osman Baydemir, Dirayet Taşdemir, Çağlar Demirel, Selma Irmak, Ahmet Yıldırım, Besime Konca, Alican Önlü and Nadir Yıldırım. They are tried as part of KCK main case. 

HDP Group Deputy Chairperson Çağlar Demirel and HDP MP Besime Konca had been arrested on December 13. 

Leyla Birlik was released on January 4. 

Yesterday, İdris Balüken was also released.
